Choosing Labour’s leader: a simple guide
This is an email message, not a blog post, about a new blog post on Ephems, at http://www.barder.com/4513, “Choosing Labour’s leader: a simple guide“. In that post I offer a list of twelve attributes, characteristics or qualifications that a (non-existent) ideal radical Labour party leader could be expected to satisfy. The list is not chosen with any intention to advance or harm the prospects of any one of the four candidates; it is as far as possible objective – although at least one of the candidates ticks spectacularly few of the twelve boxes. I conclude the post by revealing how I voted, after reading the candidates’ campaign literature and an important and revealing Fabian collection of their respective potted manifestos (see link in the blog post), and recalling as best I can what I remember of their past records.
To look at the twelve suggested qualifications (and to see how I voted in the light of them, if you’re interested), please visit http://www.barder.com/4513. Please write any comments, especially on the twelve qualifications but on the candidates too if you like (civilly, please), at the bottom of http://www.barder.com/4513, not in reply to this email (unless your comments are purely personal).
Of course if you’re qualified to vote and have already voted, all this will be of academic interest only.
Best wishes from hot, sunny south London – Sadiq territory
