The Brussels bombings: no, Islamist terrorism is not a response to a western war on Islam
This is about a new blog post on Ephems, at http://www.barder.com/4596, “The Brussels bombings: no, Islamist terrorism is not a response to a western war on Islam”. This post has been provoked by widespread and fallacious suggestions, mainly from the political left to which this blog belongs, that western policies and actions in the middle east are partially or wholly responsible for terrorist attacks on western cities, such as the recent atrocities in Brussels, and that in order to appease the terrorists and persuade them to stop attacking us, we should change our policies, even if they are justified on other grounds. I argue that this is a complete misreading of terrorists’ real motives, leading to an unacceptable prescription for our response to terrorism. I take as an example of these errors a recent article in the magazine Ceasefire in which they appear in a usefully blatant form, commenting in detail on a number of extracts from it.

Please write any comments, supportive, corrective or appalled, at the bottom of that blog post, not in reply to this email (unless your comments are purely personal). Comments containing anti-Muslim diatribes or knee-jerk denunciations of the post as Islamophobic will be deleted. But I’m sure that warning is unnecessary!
